Revive Painting does residential interior painting, exterior painting, cabinet refinishing and deck and fence staining across the Triangle. They look like four different trades and they are held together by one thing: what happens before the finish goes on.
Every one of these jobs fails in the same way when it fails. Not because someone chose the wrong colour, and almost never because of the paint itself — but because a coating was applied to a surface that was dirty, damp, glossy, chalked or moving. Washing, degreasing, scraping, sanding, repairing, caulking and priming are the entire difference between work that holds up and work that looks fine for two years. That is why our estimates itemise preparation separately from paint, and why we would rather lose a bid on price than win it by leaving that line short.

Most people arrive knowing the room or the surface that is bothering them, not the category it falls into. A few rules of thumb.
If the problem is that a room feels dated, tired or the wrong colour, that is interior painting — walls, ceilings, trim, doors and baseboards, plus the patching and caulking that comes first. If the problem is that hallway walls have got scuffed and shiny wherever anyone has cleaned them, that is also interior work, but the answer is a change of finish rather than more of the same paint.
If the problem is visible from the street — faded siding, chalky trim, a garage door that looks a decade older than the rest of the house, peeling around window frames — that is exterior painting, and it is the service where preparation matters most and where quotes vary most.
If the problem is the kitchen and the boxes and layout are fine, that is cabinet refinishing rather than a kitchen renovation. If the boxes are failing or the layout is the real problem, we will tell you paint is the wrong spend.
If it is wooden and outdoors — deck boards, railings, fencing, a pergola, a screened porch — that is the deck and fence service, and it runs on a completely different timetable from everything else because the wood has to dry properly between washing and staining.
A free estimate, walked in person by Carter rather than quoted off a photograph or a square-footage calculator. He owns the business, and he is also the person who walks the finished job with you at the end, which is a different relationship from being handed to a salesperson.
A written scope that separates preparation from paint. You should be able to read our quote and know what is being washed, what is being repaired, what is being primed and what is being coated — and then hold another company's quote next to it and see what is missing.
Protection of everything that is not being painted. Furniture moved and covered, floors masked, fixtures and hardware removed rather than taped around, landscaping covered on exterior work.
Daily cleanup rather than a single clear-up at the end. On interior work that means the rooms are usable each evening. On exterior work it means your garden is not a staging yard for a fortnight.
A walkthrough before anything is called finished, done in daylight where possible, because raking light from a window finds what overhead light hides.
There are jobs we could take and would rather talk you out of, and they come up often enough to be worth stating in advance.
Painting brick or masonry that has never been painted. It is close to irreversible and it traps moisture in a wall built to breathe. If you want the look, limewash is a mineral finish that soaks in and lets the wall breathe — a genuinely different product with a genuinely different outcome.
Going significantly darker on vinyl siding. Vinyl can be painted with the right products, but a dark colour raises the surface temperature enough to risk distorting the panels.
Refinishing cabinets whose boxes are failing, or whose layout is the actual complaint. Paint does not move a fridge.
Staining a deck that has not fully dried after washing. Stain needs to penetrate; on saturated wood it sits on the surface and fails within a season. That waiting time is the job, not padding in the schedule.
